FAQ - Decimal places in the report
PRODUCTS > Laboratory > Support
By default, the Agilent MSD-ChemStation Data Analysis software uses only two decimal places for the decimal values of the concentration in the supplied report templates. This is too little for certain applications. Of course, with some effort it is possible to create your own report form. However, if you are afraid of this effort, you can directly change the decimal formats of the standard report in the corresponding macro file or download the changed version of the epa.mac file below. This file is practically revision independent and corresponds to the last available MSD-ChemStation DA F.01.03., which is also available as a stand-alone version for MassHunter as Data Analysis Software.
The macro file can be opened and edited as a normal text file using Notepad, the Windows standard editor. To save the changes, however, administrator rights are mandatory from Windows 7. To do this, press Start or <Windows Logo> key, enter notepad in the lower search field, right-click on notepad.exe and select Run as administrator. Under the menu item File|Open or key <Ctrl + O> open the file selection window, select the display all files *.* in the dropdown list and navigate to the epa.mac file. Depending on the Agilent software used, the active configuration file is located in two different places:
- MSD-ChemStation: C:\msdchem\msmacros\epa.mac
- MassHunter: C:\gcms\msmacros\epa.mac
Before changing or overwriting the original file, it is recommended to make a backup copy. The changes affect three format strings ####.## or 4#.2#, in the three command routines EPA_Summary (line 192), Report_target (line 437) and getresult_x (line 811). As an example, the output to four decimal places is shown in the image gallery. Alternatively, this macro file (9 KB) can be downloaded via Download button. Source code changes are commented with Start Edit DOCPA and can be easily found using the internal search function in the editor.
